Ischia
The Island of Ischia has 6 towns: Ischia, Casamicciola, Lacco Ameno, Forio, Serrara Fontana and Barano. The S. Leonard Hotel is situated in the village of Panza wich is a part of the township of Forio.
The many beaches of Forio are most sought after by the young people especially Citara, Cava dell’Isola and rìthe Chiaia, wich is easily approached and preferred by families with small children. Not far off is S. Angelo, part of thetownship of Serrara Fontana, a characteristic fisherman’s village full of little shops from where the Maronti baech, is easily reached. Dinner at the Restaurant “ Lo Scoglio “ is a must.
The Island “ movida “ starts at the “ Friends Club “ in the Piazzetta in Ischia for drinks, followes by a stop at the discotheque “ Valentino “. The Calise Bar at Piazza degli Eroi is known fot its coffee as well as for its pastries and ice creams.
At the right bank ( of the harbour ), better know as the Rive Droite, one can choose between the best restaurant of the Island, Mezzanotte, jus to name one. Nearby is the Cenatiempo wine shop where an excellent local wine can be tasted.
While on holiday oin Ischia we suggest a tour of the island by micro-taxi to admire the different parts of the Island.
Indeed the Island of Tifeos, offers a variety of beaches, hills and valleys. Beautiful tended vines attes to the production of local wines in the wineries of Pietra Torcia and Casa d’Ambra. The Aragonese Castle in Ischia Ponte, the Villa Arbusto in Lacco Ameno, the botanic gardens “ La Mortella “, the civic museum Il Torrione, the church of the Soccorso, the Poseidon Thermal Park in Forio. Are just some of the locations which should be visited.
An excursion to Mount Epomeo to admire the sensational view of the whole island and to taste a well cooked tipical local dish of wild rabbit with bucatini, cannot be overlooked.
Many local folkloristic events take place during the summer seasons, such as the Feast of Saint Alessandro. Every 26th of August, the people of the tiny village of S. Alessandro, go in procession from Ischia Ponte to S.Alessandro, dressed in traditional costumes ranging from ancient Greece to the 18th century and portaying historical scenes. Another interesting event, is the feast fo S.Anne, which is held every 26th fo July. Fantastically stages floats are paraded in the waters of the bay near the Aragonese Castle.
